EMI Music has recently brokered an accord with London-based Last.fm, a music-focused social networking play. Last.fm, available as an easy iTunes add-on, scans user collections and generates recommendations and appropriate social connections based on taste. The recommendation service also spins targeted radio channels and playlists to help listeners discover great new music. As part of the recent deal, EMI will infuse its content into that mechanism, thereby gaining greater exposure among music aficionados. “The ability to discover music through social interaction on the service, coupled with their seamless integration of opportunities to purchase or subscribe, makes this agreement of huge value to EMI and our artists,” said EMI head of digital Barney Wragg.
