Music creation firm Splice has announced its latest acquisition: of Superpowered, which was part of the first Techstars Music accelerator in 2017. Back then, it was described as having developed the “fastest mobile audio engine” for games, virtual reality and mobile apps. Its tech has since been used by tens of thousands of apps, winning warm praise from Spotify and Microsoft among others on its website.
“This technology is critical today and the crux of the future of music creation tomorrow,” explained Splice in its blog post announcing the acquisition. “Joining forces with Superpowered is about more than the technology – it’s about the talent. We’re bringing in-house leading cross-platform audio technology and also some of the leading audio technologists, including Gabor Szanto, a decorated DJ and audio technologist who created the app DJ Player Pro before developing the technology behind Superpowered. This will only mean great things for our community of creators. New features built with Superpowered technology will start to roll out as soon as next month.”
The deal is the second exit via acquisition for Techstars Music, following podcast ad-tech startup Pippa last year.
