Streaming music service SoundCloud has named Merritt Farren as its new General Counsel. Farren's bailiwick includes oversight of SoundCloud's legal affairs and public policy strategy, as well as data protection, privacy, contracts, music rights and copyright issues.
Based in Berlin, Farren reports to co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Alex Ljung. Farren is stepping in to replace SoundCloud's previous General Counsel Neil Miller, who exited the company earlier this year.
Prior to joining the SoundCloud team, Farren was Chief Legal Officer at Amazon's Audible.com. He also did a stint as Associate General Counsel, Digital Media and New Technologies at Amazon.com where he participated in the launch of their digital content offerings such as music and ebooks.
